Match Report
In the end a dissapointing result although Netherton were a strong team who played good football at times. We were slow to close down in the first half and, after an even first 10 minutes, Netherton scored from a long range effort. This seemed to knock our a confidence and our football was very scrappy for the rest of the half. Netherton deservedly added a 2nd when they knocked in a rebound from a great Alex Addy save and, but for some last ditch defending and more fine goalkeeping from Addy, things could have been worse than 2-0 at half time.
The 2nd half was completely different following a confusing and garbled half time team talk from our coach. Apart from Netherton looking dangerouse on the break occasionally, Norristhorpe took the game to the home side. Some determined tackling and quality distribution in midfield and some good link up play by the strikers put Netherton under serious pressure. Any home breaks were dealt with by strong defending. We just couldn't break down the Netherton defence until a terrific 25 yard strike from Luke Fisher gave us late hope. Too little, too late though as the ref blew his whistle to viturally guarantee Netherton 2nd place in the league.
There were very positive things to take from the 2nd half and with the same performance next week we should get back to winning ways. Thanks to a committed and fair Netherton team for an entertaining game. |
